DonLodLam: through ontologies and windmills

Knowledge Organization project

This is a project realized by Davide Apolloni and Hizkiel Mitiku, students of Digital Humanities and Digital Knowledge at Bologna’s University. The project was realized after having attended the course of Knowledge Organization and Digital Methods in the Cultural Heritage Domain, held by Professor Francesca Tomasi in the academic year 2018/2019.

Knowledge Organization is a branch of library and information science concerned with activities such as document description, indexing, and classification performed in libraries, databases, archives, etc. The specific use of this discipline inside this project focuses mostly on the ontologies and the vocabularies that are used to describe data and enrich them through semantic strategies. The final result involves the creation of complex metadata for digital objects related to the cultural heritage domain.

We analyzed all the metadata of the 10 items and we created a table with to align the standards. click Here

Theoretical Model

The theoretical model is based on the E/R model, but it extends it with new properties.

Conceptual Model

We created our conceptual model by reusing already existing models which allowed us to answer the four preceding questions

Data Description

We described our data by using some tables based on the previously realized conceptual model
